FRESNO, CALIFORNIA — Two men have been arrested in the killing of 19-year-old Joe Rodriguez, a case Fresno police say marked the city’s first homicide of 2026.

Fresno Police Identify Two Suspects Now Facing Murder Charges

Fresno police said 21-year-old Isiah Mobley and 19-year-old Gavin Vasquez were taken into custody Tuesday and booked into the Fresno County Jail on murder charges.

Shooting Happened at Strip Mall Near Dakota and Hughes

Investigators said the shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at a strip mall near the intersection of Dakota Avenue and Hughes Avenue in Fresno.

Police Say a Fight Broke Out and Quickly Turned Into Gunfire

Detectives said the incident began as a fight that rapidly escalated. Responding officers later found Rodriguez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to investigators.

Victim Was Taken to Hospital, Later Pronounced Dead

Police said Rodriguez was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Officials noted he was nine days shy of his 20th birthday.
